"A Pirate's Life for Me" a Night of Swashbuckling Fun! The HCS Fine Arts Department performed "A Pirate's Life for Me" for the spring musical this year on April 29th - May 1st. The story is set in the late 18th century somewhere in the Caribbean. Aristocrat Roger Goodman (Christian Moore--9th grade) has his heart set on a conventional life with wealthy Sarah Huffington (Ashleigh Owens--12th grade). His thoughts of living happily ever after are upset, however, when he finds out she thinks he’s boring and would rather marry a brave and adventurous pirate!
Determined to prove himself worthy, Roger hires Long John Sliver (Jordan Williams--12th grade) to tutor him and his newly recruited motley crew in the art of piracy. In exchange for his total pirate makeover, Roger and his crew sail to Treasure Island seeking the chests of gold doubloons Long John buried there long ago. Meanwhile, Sarah knows there’s only one way to win the affections of a true pirate. She dubs herself the Pirate Queen and sets sail with her own crew of lady pirates. Through messages in bottles, Captain Blood (aka Roger Goodman) and the Pirate Queen learn of each other’s formidable reputations; not knowing, of course, each other’s true identity.
When Sarah gets the message that Captain Blood is holding her parents captive on Treasure Island, you can guess where the lady pirates are headed next! The real pirate Bluebeard (Garrett Walden--10th grade), however, has already retired to Treasure Island and is enjoying the good life with his crew. The island is soon swimming with retired pirates, lady pirates, and other pirate wannabes, including one character who thinks he’s a parrot (Stephen St. Jacques--12th grade). It’s not a pirate convention; it’s a game of hide-and-seek!
“The preparations for this musical have been so much fun for everyone involved”, said Ms. Currie, HCS Fine Arts Director. Assisting Ms. Chris Currie was Mrs. Lauri Moore and Miss Allison Currie. “I have enjoyed watching the students come with such enthusiasm to practice,” said Allison. Thanks and congratulations to all who made the spring musical a success once again!
